After she compared herself to the Amazon superhero Wonder Woman and saying she’d like to see the new “Wonder Woman” movie, Hillary Clinton and her husband, Bill, were treated to a private screening of the new film by a Brooklyn, NY theater on Saturday.
In June, Hillary Clinton compared herself to Wonder Woman in a video she made for a Women In Film event honoring actress Elizabeth Banks:
“Now I haven’t seen Wonder Woman yet, but I’m going to, in part because it’s directed by the fabulous Patty Jenkins. But, something tells me that a movie about a strong, powerful woman fighting to save the world from a massive international disaster is right up my alley.”
After Clinton’s desire to see the film became public, the Alamo Drafthouse in New York City used social media to invite the former First Lady to a private screening.
“She had seen the tweet and asked if the offer still stood,” theater spokesman Mike Sampson told The Huffington Post.” “We were happy to set up a private screening, for which they organized the guest list. We were obviously thrilled to have them as guests at our theater and they have an open invitation to return any time in the future.”
After Saturday’s screening, The Alamo Drafthouse posted a photo of the Clintons’ at the theater on the company’s Twitter page.
Mike Sampson, a spokesman for the Alamo Drafthouse said the showing came about when the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee ― dubbed a “nasty woman” by Republican Donald Trump in their final debate last October ― mentioned publicly that she hadn’t seen the movie yet. The Drafthouse “sent word on social media” that they’d be happy to host her, Sampson told HuffPost.
“She had seen the tweet and asked if the offer still stood,” he said. “We were happy to set up a private screening, for which they organized the guest list. We were obviously thrilled to have them as guests at our theater and they have an open invitation to return any time in the future.”
The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas made headlines and stirred up controversy last month with another exclusive screening of the movie when it held a “women only” screening of “Wonder Woman” Alamo Austin has, reportedly, admitted that it accidentally violated state law with the promotional stunt by discriminating on the basis of gender.
Now, The Alamo Drafthouse in New York City is inviting Barack and Michelle Obama to a private screening – and asking them to bring singer Beyonce with them.
