Sen. Sanders Says U.S. Will Admit ‘At Least 50,000 Climate Migrants in His 1st Year in Office’ | CNSNews.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says he will create a new program that will admit “at least 50,000” people fleeing climate change in his first year in office, if he’s elected president.

Sanders made the promise as part of his immigration reform plan, titled “A Welcoming and Safe America for All” published on his campaign website:

“Create a new program to welcome migrants displaced by climate change, and set a floor of accepting at least 50,000 climate migrants in his first year in office.”

By 2050, “200 million people will be displaced by climate change,” Sanders says, promising to welcome them into the U.S.:

“In addition to reversing Trump’s cruel and un-American refugee and immigration policies, Bernie will lead the world in addressing the most critical issue of our time: climate change. We are already seeing the effects of climate change and how it will continue to drive people from where they live.

“By 2050, an estimated 200 million people will be displaced by climate change. Bernie will lead the international community in combating this crisis and America will do its part to welcome those who are forced from their homes by climate change.”

Sanders says he’ll also order government agencies to “create and enforce” regulations to protect farmworkers from “the dangerous impacts of climate change”:
“Direct OSHA and the EPA to create and enforce heat stress and air quality standards to protect farmworkers from the dangerous impacts of climate change.”
